Abel generating site

To meet anticipated future needs, SRP identified Abel as a possible site for natural gas fueled peaking generation.

SRP plans to develop natural gas fueled peaking generation near the Abel substation either on purchased property or adjacent property. The need for this plant has been delayed by the recession and is currently planned for 2015 with full buildout by 2017.

The purchased site is larger than the eastern site and allows for the potential addition of renewable energy.

Development of the Abel generating station site will depend on confirmation of future resource needs as the economy recovers. Successful introduction of sustainable resources such as solar, wind and energy efficiency, as well as potential market acquisitions may also encourage project development.

While the project remains in phase 2, SRP anticipates building a natural gas plant in this area. SRP will provide more information and hold public meetings when plans become more concrete.

SRP will file for necessary permits for the site at the appropriate time. The permitting process will include opportunities for public comment.
